Japanese Speech Contest 2007

Went to Japanese Association of Singapore (Adam Road) to view the contest. It was really a great eye-opener! Basically, the contest is split into 4 categories - Secondary, Junior College, Tertiary Schools and Open categories. Contestants made up of mostly Singaporeans, except one or two who are Malaysian/China-Chinese. They would go up to stage and have a 5 minute-long speech on a topic they chose beforehand.

And OMG...Their level of speech was SUGOI! Firstly, I couldn't understand much of their speech. T_T I must really say Ming Xuan was really good to be able to understand... One of the secondary school students even carried a near authentic Japanese accent when she spoke. Most of them could speak pretty fast too. There was one who was quite interesting, haha. He talked about the different Japanese sound effects and even brought a doggie puppet for his speech. He was pretty fluent and made most of the audience laugh! So it was pretty expected that he won the 1st place. There was a girl who was too nervous. She started off pretty well but I think she forgot her lines halfway so it was a pity. =(

The prizes were pretty tempting too. There's portable digital player and camcorder amidst the prizes. And, you get to join the International Japanese Speech contest in Tokyo (sponsored ticket) if you get first for the Junior College category. First place constestants for tertiary and open categories also get sponsored tickets for a Japan Exchange programme. O_O

Before the Prize giving ceremony, we had a short Origami Demonstration session. The demonstrator is very skilful in origami and you can see his dislayed works below. ^_^ Maybe shawn ne-san can learn a thing or two, HAHAHA. We also got to learn how to fold origami balloon but mine was kinda distorted. XDDD (I'm never good with origami)

Dinorsaurs! Heard he took 3 hours to fold the spikey dinosaur. (forgot its name)

Cubes, balls, fans and a cute marriage thingy.

Look at the pandas!!!

AHHH pegasus! Can't imagine you can fold that!

Angel!
